Diagnostic Services
Radiology
X-rays are one of the most useful tools we employ to diagnose medical problems in your pet. X-rays (radiographs) allow us to evaluate your pet's musculoskeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. Using x-rays, we can determine the location and severity of bone fractures, identify the symptoms of heart disease and locate foreign bodies (bones, toys, etc.) inside your pet's stomach and intestine.
Amador Valley Veterinary Hospital uses the Innovet-Select x-ray unit, which includes an automatic processor for film developing. This allows us to quickly process your pet's images and treat him or her immediately. A board-certified veterinary radiologist evaluates your pet's x-rays. If necessary, your pet's diagnostic images also can be emailed to veterinary specialists for faster consultations and second opinions.
Ultrasound
Amador Valley Veterinary Hospital uses the latest veterinary ultrasound equipment in order to diagnose your pet's health issues. Ultrasound uses high-frequency soundwaves to produce a real-time moving image of your pet's internal organs.
Ultrasound is used for a wide-range of diagnostic procedures. It is particularly useful in viewing your pet's abdominal organs and performing pregnancy evaluations. Ultrasound is also useful in evaluating heart function and for bladder scans.
Your pet receives the latest ultrasound-guided diagnostic care at Amador Valley Veterinary Hospital. We have partnered with a mobile, board-certified veterinary radiologist to perform echocardiograms, advanced abdominal ultrasound examinations, guided aspirate for cytology, and guided biopsies for histopathology.
Diagnostic Laboratory
When your pet is sick, he or she cannot tell us what is wrong. Sometimes we need to rely on diagnostic tests in order to make an accurate diagnosis. Thanks to our in-house diagnostic laboratory, your pet's test results are ready within a matter of minutes.
Our laboratory is capable of processing dozens of tests, including complete blood counts (CBCs), blood chemistry panels, parasite testing (to detect the presence of heartworms, roundworms and other internal parasites), bacterial and fungal cultures, fecal analysis, and more. Your pet's results are analyzed and interpreted by our team of specially-trained veterinary technicians. The result is fast, accurate treatment for your pet.
